Obituary of Christine Ellen Maher

MAHER, Christine Ellen – Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia on Sunday, March 25, 2012 with her family by her side. Survived by her beloved husband and best friend Steve Maher and her children Paul, Kristen and Andrew of Sarnia, and Jennifer (Stephen) Knibbs of Wellington, New Zealand. Dear daughter of Floris Wilkie and the late Lorne Wilkie. Beloved sister of Arnott of Erieau, Janis (Keith) Ascroft of Sarnia and Jane Wilkie of Toronto. Survived by brothers-in-law Nicholas (Vorrei) Maher of New Zealand, Julian (Katie) Maher of the Cook Islands, sisters-in-law Catherine (Andrew) Hutton of England and Bernadine (Bob) Fearon of New Zealand. Also surviving are Aunt Glenda and Uncle Bob of Toronto and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, New Zealand and the U.K. Chris was actively involved in the home building industry in Sarnia for over 32 years. Before coming ill, Chris had taken up running which she enjoyed. She was an active member of the Sarnia Tennis Club and thoroughly enjoyed her time on the court and the many friends she made. She was an active member of Huron Oaks Golf Club and part of the “Fab Four” plus one. She was an avid gardener through the years and enjoyed travelling. Special thanks to Dr. M. Dostaler, the wonderful nurses in the dialysis unit at Bluewater Health and the many doctors and nurses in London and Sarnia that cared for Chris during her illness. Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Peter Keller at St. Michael’s Church (Bright’s Grove) on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at Huron Oaks Golf Course. Arrangements entrusted to McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE (519-344-3131).
