Obituary of Manuel Dealmeida

DEALMEIDA, Manuel – Peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Celeste for 51 years. Dear Pai of Jenny DeAlmeida, London, Elizabeth (Andy) Robinson, Kitchener and Daniel DeAlmeida, New York. Loving Avo of Brianne and Jacob Robinson, Kitchener. Godfather to Eric. “Avo” to Becky and Cindy. Brother of Maria (late Manuel) Rodrigues, Sarnia, Celestino (Irma) Almeida, Sarnia, Rufina (late Armando) Dias, Sarnia, Emilia (Agostinho) Tavares, Sarnia, Armanio (Rosa) DeAlmeida, Portugal, Elio (Marilia) DeAlmeida, Portugal and Helena (Avelino) Bastos, Portugal. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews in Canada and in his homeland of Portugal. Predeceased by his parents Antonio & Eugenia deAlmeida and niece Linda Tavares. Manuel came to Canada in 1955. He worked in various cities and towns before settling in Sarnia and raising his family here. He retired from Suncor after 25 years of service and was a member of the Portuguese Club. Manuel spent his retirement years tending to his trees and gardens that he loved in his backyard. He loved to fish, collect antiques and attend garage sales on Saturdays.  Friends will be received at ST. BENEDICT’S CHURCH, 1011 Oak St., Sarnia (please use parking lot entrance) on Friday from 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Jim Higgins at St. Benedict’s Church on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. Interment Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
