Obituary of Murray Evan Squire

SQUIRE, Murray Evan – At Queensway Carlton Hospital, Ottawa on December 28, 2012, in his 90th year.  Beloved husband of the late Anne E. (Betty) Squire of 58 years.  Loving father of Sharon Squire & her husband Scott Hamilton of Ottawa and Larry Squire & his wife Rev. Felicia Urbanski of Fergus.  Cherished grandfather of Hillary and Evan Hamilton of Ottawa and dear brother in-law of Margaret Squire of Mississauga.  Predeceased by his parents Carman & Verna Squire and his brothers Donald and Gerald. Murray was an educator for 37 years (Guidance Consultant with the Lambton County Board of Education and taught Guidance Summer Courses for the Ministry of Education and University of Western Ontario).  In his retirement, he was President of the Sarnia Chapter of Pensioners Concerned for 18 years and President of Sarnia District Horticultural Society and the Retired Teachers of Lambton County. Murray was involved with the District Health Council, Lambton Seniors Association and Elder Abuse Committee and was instrumental in the opening of the Strangway Community Centre.  Murray was the recipient of numerous awards: Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, Senior Achievement Award (Ontario), Older Persons Award (Ontario), International Year of Volunteers Award and was on the Mayor’s Honor Roll.  He enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Europe, New Zealand and Australia with Betty. Murray was a member of Central United Church and spent his last two years in Ottawa. His caring ways and infectious smile will be missed. Visitation will be at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 from 12:00 noon - 1 p.m.  A funeral service will be held in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.  As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations  to the Operating Fund of Central United Church, 220 George Street, Sarnia N7T 4N9 or the charity of your choice.
