Obituary of Michael Jerome "Mick" McGarrity

MCGARRITY, MICHAEL "MICK"- At University Hospital, London on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the age of 59. Beloved son of the late Dr. Philip & Aurette McGarrity, Sarnia. Loving brother and best friend of John McGarrity, London. Dear nephew of Margaret McGarrity, St. Stephen, NB, Claire Vanderwalt & her husband Eric, Ottawa, Joan Belanger, Kenora and Irene Belanger, Toronto. Also survived by many cousins. Michael held a PhD in Chemistry from University of Western Ontario. He worked as one of the head scientists for Labatt's Brewery for over 20 years. Mick's whole life revolved around sailing. From the time he was 15 he worked for Boston Sail where he learned everything there was about sailing and his passion for boating stayed with him his whole life. He loved to race sailboats all over Canada and the U.S.A. with his mentor Spike Boston where they won most of their races. Mick loved to garden and spend time with his cats. Mick was a wonderful son and brother, full of life and laughter always bringing a smile to all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church on Friday, August 9th at 10 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to charity of choice.
