Obituary of Duncan McInnes Longwell

LONGWELL, Duncan – Surrounded by his family and friends at Vision Nursing Home, on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, Duncan passed away at the age of 79. Loving companion of June Holmes, Sarnia. Predeceased by wife Elizabeth and son Robert Longwell. Father-in-law of Carol Longwell, and grandfather of Jamie (Kris) Karmazinuk, Olds, Alberta. Great-grandfather of Tyler, Breanna and Ryder. Brother of Sadie (Bill) and Muriel (the late Cedric), Scotland. Also surviving are June’s son Martin Holmes, North Bay, her daughter Lauren (Craig) Nisbet, Sarnia, special friend Sue De Villaer, Sarnia as well as several nieces and nephews in Scotland. Duncan came to Canada from Scotland in 1951 at the age of 21. He worked at Polymer until retirement. He served with the Lambton County Board of Education for 33 years. Duncan was very involved in organized labour, having served as both a member and president of various boards including the Sarnia Labour Council and C.E.P.U. Local 914. Duncan had a passion for politics and was an advocate for those in need in the community. For his lifetime of commitment, Duncan was honoured with many awards and recognitions from both the city and the province. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A very special thank you is extended to Duncan’s family at Vision Nursing Home. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel on Tuesday at 11 a.m. and will be officiated by Elaine Walker.
