VANDENHEUVEL, Cornelius "Cees" - At Sumac Lodge on Friday, July 6, 2007, Cees died peacefully at the age of 98. Beloved husband of the late Joanna (1969). Loving father of Elizabeth, Bert and his wife Doreen, Hank and his wife Jean, Cees and his wife Freda, Archie, Marion and Mary Jo and her husband Gerald Lynch. Proud grandpa of Liz-Anne, Margaret, Leo-John, Gregory, Lisa, Bradley, Marc, Melissa, Sheila, Maria, Justine, Susan, Keith, Melanie, Bryan, Meghan and Maura; and great-grandpa of 24. Cees will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his family, including many nieces and nephews in Canada and The Netherlands, and his friends. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers and six sisters. Cees came to Sarnia from The Netherlands in 1953 and worked as a general contractor building many homes and several churches, as well as additions to local businesses, including the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home. He also served as the caretaker of Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery for many years and was elected an Honorary Member of the Catholic Cemetery Association for the Diocese of London on November 17, 1984. Cees was also on the Mayor's Honour List for the construction of the Sarnia Humane Society building. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Sunday from 2-4:30 p.m. ONLY where Prayers will be offered at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 9th at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to CNIB, 1929 Bayview Ave., Toronto M4E 3E8, Canadian Cancer Society, 714 Lite St., Pt. Edward N7V 1A6, or the Sarnia & District Humane Society, 131 Exmouth St., Sarnia N7T 7W8. A tree has been planted in memory of Cornelius VandenHeuvel in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest.
