Obituary of N. Anne Zatylny

ZATYLNY, Nita Anne (nee Gosnell) - Peacefully in Sarnia, Ontario, on February 15, 2007, in the loving embrace of her family. Born on March 24, 1929 in Highgate, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Jeanette and Delmer Gosnell. A resident of Sarnia, Ontario, Anne was the beloved wife of 55 years of Joseph. Mother and friend of Ted of Sarnia and Jane Nahirny and her husband, Mark, of Salt Spring Island, B.C. Cherished and much loved "Grandma Anna" to Victor. Predeceased by her brother Lawrence and sister Mary, Anne will be deeply missed by her loving sister Frances and her brothers-in-law Ed and Carl and sisters-in-law Denise and Lynn. Anne will also be missed by her cousin Lee and his wife Katherine and her many nieces and nephews, as well as her countless friends. Raised in Highgate, a farming community settled by her family in the 1830s, Anne attended the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. After graduation, she began her career as a secretary at Imperial Oil then worked at Cabot Carbon in Sarnia. For Anne, family came first: following her marriage to Joseph, she turned her talents to raising her children. A founding member of the Sarnia Weavers' Guild, the IODE (Egremont Chapter), and The Gallery in the Grove, Bright's Grove, Ontario, Anne was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity, the University Women's Club, and Central United Church. Her talents and gifts extended to playing the piano, sewing, weaving, and gourmet cooking. She enjoyed foreign travel, fine restaurants, the theatre, music, reading, and her bridge and gourmet clubs. Above all, Anne was dedicated to her family and friends. Quiet and unassuming in her service to others, she could always be relied upon to "get the job done," whether she was fund-raising or advising one of her children. The service will be held in the sanctuary at Central United Church, 220 George Street, Sarnia on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Gary R. Carruthers.
