Obituary of Alexander Jonas Budrys

BUDRYS, Alexander Jonas “Al” – Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer, Al passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of the late Nellie. Loving father of Sandi (Paul) Kowalyshyn, Randy (Roberta) Hurak, Ron (Kay) Hurak and Ken (Betty) Huryk and the late Ed Hurak. Father-in-law of Mona Hurak. Brother of Kazimieras Budrys, Jadvyga Ramanauskas and Veronika Kvedaravicius and the late Vytautas Budrys. Grandfather of Samantha, Will, Shaniah, Charlotte, Elliott, Tracy, Deanna and Jamie. Loving uncle to Birute (Arvydas) Babusis, Veronica (Sam) Mostacchio and Tony (Jurate) Budrys. Proud friend of Don Sim. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren. Al led an extremely interesting life beginning with his early years in Lithuania. Al immigrated to Canada at the age of 15 and held a variety of jobs including strip boss in a lumber camp, miner, welder, greenskeeper and auto body repairman. Al enjoyed a great sense of humour and was always willing to share a story and a laugh with anyone who happened to be fortunate enough to be sitting beside him. He truly was a “character” and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends, especially those at Global Donuts. Al’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Maddison and the volunteers at the Hospice as well as all of the doctors and staff at Bluewater Health that helped take care of Al over these last several months. Also, a special thank you to Sheila Thompson of V.O.N. and all the wonderful people at Landmark Village. Cremation has taken place.  A cemetery remembrance service for family and friends of Al will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2 p.m. for family and friends. Arrangements are entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 519-344-3131.
