Obituary of Gilbert Nicholas Carey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Gil Carey on Monday, May 12, 2025 at the age of 94.  Beloved father of Don Carey (Joanne) and Jenny Guibert (Mark).  Cherished grandfather of Warren Carey, Wes Carey and Wade Carey (David).  Predeceased by his former wife Yvonne Carey (2018).  

Gil was born in Cookshire, Quebec and grew up in a large family of 12 siblings.  He will be fondly remembered by his brother Ron Carey and sisters Janet Caouette (Guy) and Marie Dubois (Luc), as well as many nephews and nieces.  Predeceased by his brothers Raymond, Francis and Austin and sisters Irene, Madeleine, Joan, Debbie and Olive.  

Gil worked throughout Canada before settling in Sarnia in the 1950's.  He was a proud member of Local 663 for 73 years and worked at various Chemical Valley Plants.  Being a pipefitter and union member was a badge of honour for him!

Gil will be remembered as a kind, humble and appreciative person, never short of a "Thank you."  Whenever we asked our Dad how he was doing, his reply was always "Top of the world!"  He was an incredible handyman with an ability to build or fix anything he put his mind to.

Village on the St. Clair was home for dad for the last 15 years.  A very special thank you to all the staff for their constant care and cheerful support all these years.

In honouring Gil's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will occur with immediate family members.  Arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (519-344-3131).  As an expression of sympathy friends who wish may send memorial donations to a charity of your choice.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com
