Obituary of Frederick Daniel Harwood

HARWOOD, Frederick Daniel “Joey” – Fred passed away at home after an ongoing battle with COPD related to asbestosis on Monday, May 5, 2025 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Marilyn (Miller) for 61 years. Dear father of Fred (Odette) and Derek (Silvia). Grandfather of Freddie (Kristina) and Dennis (Kathleen). Brother of Phyllis Regan (late Frank) and Karen Kettle (Larry). Brother-in-law of Alex Miller (Janice). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Ida Harwood, sons Sterling and Marcus (Arlene) and sister-in-law Velma Olynik (Gerry). Working as an auto mechanic, Fred and Marilyn came with their family from North Bay in 1968. In 1985 he joined City Insurance as an insurance agent, retiring in 2006 after 21 years of service. He then joined the staff at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home where he was a much respected funeral assistant. Fred was a long time active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, volunteering as the property manager for the church and as a Eucharistic Minister.

Friends will be received at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 210 Michigan Ave., Point Edward on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 12-1:45 p.m. The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Fred’s ashes will be interred in North Bay at a later date.
