Obituary of Carmon Broadbent

Elsie Carmon Broadbent May 7, 1932 – Feb 14, 2025

Carmon Broadbent, passed away late Valentines Day, in comfort and superb care at Bluewater Health - Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital, Petrolia of rapid onset heart failure after a full and healthy 92 years. She was the fourth of five daughters born to Ross Maitland Broadbent and Ada Minerva (Thompson) Broadbent of Oil City, Lambton County, Ontario.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Ferne (the late Carl) Whiting and many nieces and nephews. Carmon is predeceased by Ethel (the late Harry) Bradley, and Violet (the late Gord) Laing of Oil City and Mavis Joyce (the late William) Brandon of Enniskillen Township.

Carmon worked for several years in the secretarial pool of Polysar in Sarnia. She was married briefly, but marriage did not agree with her.  Being fiercely independent, Carmon lived in several towns in Ontario: Oil City (child), Sarnia, Newmarket, Chatham, Bradford, and most recently Petrolia. Carmon had a deep passion and interest in folk art and operated a craft supply business and workshop in Sarnia prior to retirement.  Several of her paintings are held in private by family and friends.

Carmon was frugal, and lived a small private life at a time before leaving a small ecological footprint was a recognized virtue. In accordance with her wishes her remains have been cremated, and no marker or stone will be placed in her memory. No memorial service or celebration of life is anticipated.

Personal commemoration of her life and memory, can be reflected by a donation to Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital Foundation (CEEHF); where Carmon spent her final days. Arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N. Messages of condolence & memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com.
