HULAJ, PAUL - It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Hulaj announces his passing at Bluewater Heath, Sarnia on August 1, 2017 at the age of 84. He leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Hulaj (nee Rusinko); his son, Larry (Natalie) Hulaj: his daughter, Paula (Steve) Reibling; grandsons, Sean and Joel Reibling; sister-in-law, Henni Hulaj; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. Paul is predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Anna (nee Hornak) Hulaj; and siblings, John (Emily) Hulaj, Mary (Gus) Luhovy, and Louis Hulaj. Born in Slovakia, Paul's family immigrated to Canada in 1937 where they ultimately settled in Alvinston, Ontario to farm. After receiving his education in a one-room country school in Alvinston, and high school in Watford, he went on to attend the Radio College of Canada in Toronto, followed by Coyne Electrical & Electronics School in Chicago where he obtained his Television Technician Diploma. This launched his career into the radio and television repair business. After moving to Sarnia with Helen in 1957, he obtained employment there as a television technician at a retail appliance store. He ended up purchasing the service department from which grew three television and appliance stores. Many will remember Paul's TV and Appliance in Sarnia. After 25 years in this business, he decided to sell and began a new career in the travel business, eventually opening five locations of Global Travel in Sarnia and Michigan. ln 2001, he had the opportunity to sell the last of the travel agencies and decided to retire. Paul enjoyed his work immensely and kept busy planning group cruises for many years after his retirement. He and Helen loved to travel, especially cruising on the Caribbean and spending many winters in Florida. Golf was a favourite pastime and he was a member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club for many years. He was also a lifetime member of the Sarnia Lions Club. Visitation will be at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to your charity of choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
