BLANCHARD, Mae Elizabeth (nee Grant) - Peacefully, surrounded by her family at St. Joseph's Hospice, Sarnia, Mae Blanchard died on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the age of 91. Loving mother of Mark Blanchard & his wife Carol, Sarnia. Cherished grandmother of Jason Hoover (Kerri), Sarnia, Treasure Vargas (Juan Carlos), Sarnia, Christoper Ried (Kyla), Edmonton, Jennifer and Patricia Reid, Brantford. Great-grandmother of Madison & Joshua Hoover and Liam & Payton Reid. Predeceased by her parents Hugh & Wilomena Grant, son Monty Blanchard, daughter Janice Hoover & her husband Dave, sisters Ina Ann Gruber and Winnifred Stillwell and brother Norman Grant. Mae was recognized as opening the very 1st licensed day care in Sarnia and had an article written about her and St. Bartholomew Church in the Chatelaine magazine. She also loved knitting and belonged to the knitting group at Trinity Anglican Church. She was a fiercely independent women who always had a kind word and warm heart for everyone. The family would like to express their gratitude to Carol Bell, who has been by Mae's side caring for her with love and compassion for over 20 years. Also thank you to the doctors, staff and volunteers at St. Joseph's Hospice and Bluewater Health Palliative Care for making Mae's last days peaceful. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, Sarnia on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery will follow the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia (519-344-3131).
