MURPHY, DR. JOHN PRESTON - With family by his side, Dr. John Murphy died at St. Joseph's Hospice on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Ellen (nee Comiskey). Loving father of Michael Murphy & his wife Patti, Arizona, Kevin Murphy, Seattle, Denis Murphy, Toronto and Elizabeth Murphy & her husband Dr. Jerome Levesque, Mississauga. Cherished grandfather of Audrey, Kate & Nicole Levesque. Dear brother of Richard Murphy, Quebec, and brother-in-law Fredrick Comiskey & his wife Gita, Troy, Michigan and sister-in-law Linda Krispian & her husband Larry, Union Lake, Michigan. Predeceased by his parents Hugh & Barbara Murphy, brothers Wendy, Marcel, Claude & Frances, sister Margaret Mitchell and his parents-in-law Fred & Thelma Comiskey and brother-in-law James Comiskey. John graduated with a Degree in science from St. Francis Xavier University in 1953; he went on to the University of Ottawa Medical School and graduated in 1959. Specializing in Internal Medicine, he completed a Residency from the University of Michigan in 1964 and received his Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1966. He joined Carruther's Clinic in 1964 and worked at both Sarnia General and St. Joseph's Hospital sites as well as Bluewater Health where he served on many hospital committees and was instrumental in the creation of the intensive care and cardiac care units. His many hours of hard work were greatly appreciated by both patients and staff. Due to a hearing impairment he decided to retire in 2007. However, working from home, he continued to read EKG's for Life Labs and serve on various hospital committees. Growing up in the Laurentian Mts. of Quebec, he was an avid downhill skier and later enjoyed cross country skiing. He also enjoyed watching professional tennis and golf tournaments and, upon retirement, seemed to further enjoy the 'frustrations' of golf with a good friend. His favorite pastime was learning and he continued to read current medical literature with a passion. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Service to honour John will be held in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel immediately following visitation on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
