Obituary of Hazel Anna Richards

RICHARDS, Hazel Anna - Peacefully, surrounded by her family at St. Joseph's Hospice, Sarnia, Hazel Anna Richards died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Raymond Arthur Richards (2010). Loving mother of Ron & his wife Sheila, Dundas, Robert "Bob" and his wife Dale, Mississauga, Adelle, Sarnia and Bert, Dundas. Cherished grandmother of Kyle, Craig, Jennifer and Lauren. Great-grandmother of Thomson and Harrison. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and her adored dog, Patti. Predeceased by her brother Bill and sister Peggy. Hazel spent her early childhood in a suburban Detroit orphanage with her brother and sister. She moved to Windsor with her foster parents where she met her future husband Ray, marrying him upon his return from serving with the RCAF in WWII in July of 1945. They lived in south Windsor until 1965 when they moved to Sarnia. Mom and dad loved to go to auction sales and antiquing. In 1971 they opened Ray's Shoppe in Sarnia, selling quality antiques. Many long lasting relationships were created there over a cup of tea. Mom's passions were gardening, nature and animals. There was an endless supply of bird and pet food in her house. Hazel lived a simple and abundant life. Her friends and family will miss her dearly. Thanks mom for all you did for us. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to her Corunna neighbours, Bluewater Health, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Kim, the Palliative Care nursing staff, especially Joanne Collins, St. Joseph's Hospice staff and volunteers and all those along the way. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 4 – 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel on Saturday, April 23, at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date.
