Obituary of Edith Turner

TURNER, Edith Beatrice (Crowe) – Born on October 20, 1919, Edith died peacefully October 7, 2008. Her passing is mourned by her children, Margaret (Tegegne) Selassie, MaryLynn (Paul) Mansell, Jim (Joanne) Turner, Jean (John) Clement, and Gord (Caroline) Turner. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Emerson (2000) and her great-granddaughter, MargaretAnn Park (2008). Edith was the much loved grandmother of Rebecca (Shawn) Park, Marta (Mark Dauphinee) Selassie, Jennifer (Jim) Davies and their children, Nigel and Tiernan, Kim (Jerry) Lamport and their children, Mya and Oliver, Sara (Kris) Lemay, James, Katie and Matthew Turner, Lindsay and Lauren Clement (Chris Sowchuk), Kaley (Adam Morden) Turner and their daughter Kierra, Nigel (Shannon Moore) and their children, Maddison, Kai and Macey Turner, Miranda (Mike) Hamil, and Allie Turner. Also predeceased by her brother, Bill Crowe (1985) and parents, Senior Majors Alfred and Beatrice (Ellis) Crowe. Edith graduated as a registered nurse from the Salvation Army Grace Hospital, Windsor, 1941. During her training she met Emerson and they married in 1942. They were married for 58 years before his death. In 1955, they moved to Sarnia where they raised their five children. Edith pursued her career as a nurse at Sarnia General Hospital, retiring in 1976. She was a faithful soldier and local corps officer in the Sarnia Salvation Army Corps. Before her recent hospitalization, Edith was lovingly cared for by the dedicated staff of Rosewood Manor. Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Friday, October 10th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel (970 Confederation St.) on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will be officiated by Major Rick Pollard. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may forward memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 970 Confederation St., Sarnia N7S 1A1 or the charity of their choice. Dedication service Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
